Dear friends,
It gives me great pleasure, as the Leader of the main opposition party in Seychelles, the United Seychelles, to join representatives of other countries of our continent in participating in this African Continental Virtual Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba.
As everybody knows, this virtual meeting takes place during a month full of symbolism of internationalist solidarity in the struggle for independence for both Cuba and Africa. We are here reminded of the great Cuban revolutionary, Comrade Fidel Castro, and the role he played in putting an end to apartheid in South Africa. We further pay tribute to the greatest internationalist of our time, Dr. Ernesto Che Guevara.
During its years as the Party in government in Seychelles, my party, the United Seychelles has never faltered in joining the rest of the world to condemn for the past 28 years, the “largest economic aggression in human history”, i.e the economic blockade imposed by the United States, essentially a violation of human rights that has been taking place for the last 60 years.
We also denounce the media war that is designed to manipulate and distort information about Cuba and destabilise the country.
May I take this opportunity to thank the Cuban people for their continued assistance to Africa in general and Seychelles in particular.
It is my sincere hope that this meeting brings about some fruitful discussions, new initiatives and above all, results in closer collaboration and solidarity amongst us.
