Jamaica LANDS reaffirms their support to the Cuban Revolution

Letter of the Left Alliance for National Democracy and Socialism of Jamaica to the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba

Comrades,

The collective political leadership of LANDS reaffirms its support for the Cuban Revolution and solidarity against any imperialist-backed attempts at counter-revolution. Our stance comes mostly from a firm belief in the principles of self-determination, without which Democracy cannot exist and which is undermined by foreign interference.

The attacks on Cuba are a part of a wider imperialist assault against the entire region. The means of this assault are irregular and unconventional warfare, including genocidal economic sanctions and direct support for agents of political destabilisation. The main targets of these strategies have so far been Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua. The ultimate goal of foreign interference has been seen in Bolivia when their efforts were temporarily successful.

We do not just speak from the heart, but also the mind. We have seen evidence, through articles in the mainstream media like New York Times and Washington Post, as well as on publicly-available information on the US government’s own websites, that the US government has been funding opposition and inciting unrest for years. This leaves no room for us to see the unrest in Cuba as an organic uprising coming from the people themselves.

Having researched history and having paid attention to recent developments in the region, we see where intelligence services and initiatives disguised as ‘foreign aid’ have incited unrest by manipulating activists, organised labour, and the cultural sector. In Jamaica, the Left is preparing to wage our own political battle against the NGO sector that acts on behalf of the local private sector and foreign imperialist governments who dangle money in front of them like carrots on sticks.

The significance of our stance in solidarity with you is that it comes right after we have concluded our 5th annual congress, in which all the members of our organisation, after consulting the wider movement of roughly 120 active persons, participated in elections which saw each member of the current leadership receive an approval rating over 75%. This means that you can trust that what we say is in representation of the level of analysis and the political stances of the members of our organisation and the wider movement.

Sincerely,

Christophe Simpson
Chairman of Jamaica LANDS
