HomeCubaIntervention of the First Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs...

Intervention of the First Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Marcelino Medina, in the Extraordinary Meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Palestine of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries (NAM).

His Excellency Mr. Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan;
Dear Ministers and Heads of Delegations;
We appreciate the efforts of the Azeri Presidency to convene this extraordinary Meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Palestine of the Non-Aligned Movement.
Since its inception, the Movement has given the highest priority to defending the Palestinian cause and the inalienable rights of its people, violated by more than seven decades of occupation.
Cuba reiterates its strong condemnation of the indiscriminate bombings by the State of Israel against the Palestinian population in Gaza, last May, which caused the loss of hundreds of lives and considerable material damage.
These attacks constitute another serious and flagrant violation of the Charter of the United Nations, International Law and International Humanitarian Law by Israel, and demonstrate the continuity of aggressive policies, colonization practices and the occupation of Arab and Palestinian lands. These deplorable Israeli actions have the complicity and impunity guaranteed by the United States, whose government obstructs the action of the United Nations Security Council.
We emphasize the call to this body to fulfill its responsibility under the UN Charter for the maintenance of international peace and security, and to demand an immediate end to the occupation of the Palestinian territories; as well as compliance with the resolutions on the situation in the Middle East approved by that Body, including the Palestinian question, particularly resolution 2334 of 2016.
We reaffirm our unrestricted support for a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on the creation of two States, which will allow the Palestinian people to exercise the right to self-determination and to have an independent and sovereign State in the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and guaranteeing the right of return for refugees.
We reiterate our unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian Government and people and support the entry of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations.
Dear Ministers and Heads of Delegations:
The defense of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, the condemnation of the illegal occupation of their territories and the search for an immediate solution to this conflict, in accordance with International Law, the UN Charter and the relevant resolutions of that Organization; They will continue to be a primary duty of the Non-Aligned Movement, until the historic debt with that heroic people is settled.
Thank you
