Athens, September 24. At the annual festival of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE), which takes place on September 23, 24 and 25 in Athens, a massive event of solidarity with Cuba was organized under the slogan “Cuba is not alone.” There, the floor were taken by Aris Evangelidis, head of Latin America at the International Relations Department of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE); and Zelmys Maria Dominguez Cortina, ambassador of Cuba in Greece.
At the event was explained the current situation in Cuba, the strengthening of the criminal US blockade against the Caribbean country; the unilateral coercive measures taken by the Trump administration, and maintained and augmented by Biden; the fight against COVID; the development of Cuban vaccines and other topics of interest. In addition, the ambassador thanked the militant and permanent solidarity of the KKE and the KNE and of the Greek friends in general; and she also answered questions from the attendees.
The Greek solidarity friends present at the event condemned the blockade against Cuba, supported the struggle and heroic resistance of the Cuban people, repudiated the imperial interference in the destinies of Cuba and recognized the relevant contribution of Cuban science to the battle against the Covid -19 pandemic. They also demanded that Cuba and its people solve their own problems in peace, without harassment and without criminal blockades, and to respect Cuba’s legitimate right to sovereignty and national independence.
Representatives of various political forces were present at the solidarity event with Cuba, among which the members of the KKE and the KNE stood out, such as Giorgios Marinos, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the KKE in charge of international relations, the MEP of the KKE Lefteris Nikolaos Alavanos, several members of the Hellenic parliament and the KKE Central Committee, as well as multiple grassroots militants of the KKE and the KNE from all over the country. Representatives of solidarity organizations such as the Hellenic Cuban Friendship and Solidarity Association of Athens, the Jose Martà Cultural Association of Friendship with Cuba, the Greek Committee for International Democratic Solidarity (EEDDA), the Hellenic Committee for International Distension and Peace ( EEDYE), the World Peace Council, among other organizations, as well as the general public, also attended the event.
The Festival of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE), is a broad and relevant national social, political and cultural event, which takes place on several weekends in various cities of the country and the culmination is this of Athens, to which thousands and thousands of people attend, complying with current sanitary measures.
This solidarity event made clear once again the friendship and solidarity of the Greek people with the Cuban people.
