Geneva, March 20, 2022.- The First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, Gerardo Peñalver Portal, will speak at the opening session of the Cuban presidency of the United Nations Conference on Disarmament, on March 22. next, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.
Peñalver Portal will also hold meetings with senior officials from International Organizations and the United Nations Organization, based in said headquarters, with whom he will exchange on various issues on the international agenda.
Cuba assumes the responsibility of presiding over the Conference on Disarmament with the commitment to work so that this forum maintains its relevance and on the basis of its principled position in favor of multilateralism, peace and general and complete disarmament, in particular nuclear disarmament.
This body, made up of 65 member states, has been mandated by the UN General Assembly since 1978 as the only multilateral negotiating forum in the field of disarmament.
