By UnblockCuba GR- Athens, June 22. The #UnblockCuba GR campaign carried out today, June 22, 2021, the eve of the vote at the United Nations for the Cuban Resolution against the blockade, a demonstration a few meters from the United States Embassy, in the Greek capital.
More than fifty people, friends of Cuba, were present responding to the call of the UnblockCuba Campaign and demanding the lifting of the unjust and genocidal blockade of the United States against the island imposed for more than 60 years.
Despite the difficulties of the pandemic, representatives of the more than 40 organizations and groups that joined the UnblockCuba Campaign since October, attended the activity, which was multifaceted. Informational material was distributed to passers-by in this central location in Athens. The floor was given to the friends of Cuba, who, in addition to expressing their solidarity, condemned the blockade as the most massive violation of human rights against the Cuban people by Yankee imperialism. They stressed that the UN vote and the campaign only constituted one battle in the struggle that continues to put an end to this criminal imperialist policy.
The demonstration culminated in a march to the United States Embassy to deliver the declaration of the demand signed by 3,000 people and dozens of organizations to end the unjust blockade against Cuba. Slogans were heard such as, “Hands off Cuba” “solidarity is the weapon of the peoples” “Down with the blockade” “Let the blockade against Cuba end now.” The march was stopped by the police forces, who did not allow the participant to approach the US Embassy, nor did they even allow a small delegation to pass, justifying an order from the General Directorate of the Police.
The protesters renewed the appointment for the coming struggles until the definitive lifting of the cruel Yankee blockade.
