Gambians appreciate congratulations for their Independence Day, and reiterate solidarity with Cuba

Banjul, Feb 19th.- Joseph Modou Peh Grant, the president of the Gambia-Cuba Friendship Association, , thanked the congratulatory messages sent from Havana for the 57th anniversary of the Independence of this West African nation, and reiterated the solidarity of his organization with the Caribbean island in its struggle against the US blockade.

In a letter made public in this capital, Grant expressed his gratitude for the congratulations of the government and people of the largest of the Antilles to his country, this February 18th, and assured that his compatriots will always be by the side of the Cuban solidarity brothers.

The president of the association, on behalf of its members, assured that The Gambia will continue to reject the economic, financial and commercial siege imposed by Washington on the Caribbean archipelago 60 years ago, and which has cruelly intensify in times of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Cuban Head of State, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, and the Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) sent messages of congratulations to the Gambian authorities and people for their Independence Day.

The Medical Brigade that heals and saves lives in this African nation, and the island’s embassy in Banjul, did also the same among others.
