Cuban Ambassador meets with Jamaican doctor and philanthropist Dr. Romario Simpson

Kingston, Jamaica, 7 May 2021. Cuban Ambassador Inés Fors Fernández received this morning Dr. Romario Simpson, a medical doctor serving at the University Hospital of the West Indies.

At the cordial meeting, Dr. Simpson expressed his admiration for the Cuban health and education systems, and the cooperation that our country provides to Jamaica in these areas. For her part, the Ambassador reaffirmed Cuba’s desire to maintain close ties of friendship and cooperation with Jamaica and the Caribbean in general, and talked to the doctor about the work carried out by the Cuban medical and educational brigades on the Jamaican territory.

Likewise, the Ambassador updated Dr. Simpson on the present state of Cuban vaccine candidates against Covid19. She stressed that it has been possible to develop said compounds thanks to the experience Cuba has accumulated after decades of scientific research in the field of biotechnology. She added that these advances are being achieved despite an unprecedented strengthening of the blockade of the United States of America against our country, and reiterated the call for standing in solidarity with the world’s demand for its elimination.

Besides his medical service, Dr. Simpson also engages in philanthropic activities within the country, through his foundation, other related organizations and projects such as the “I Believe” initiative promoted by the Governor General of Jamaica, His Excellency Sir Patrick Allen.
