Cuban Ambassador exchanges with officials from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD).

Oslo, January 17th, 2022. The ambassador, Maité Rivero Torres, held a videoconference with Jorun Nossum, deputy director, and Sonja Jakobsen and Guro Glavin, specialists, from the Oceans Section of the Department for Climate and Environment of the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD).

Among the topics on the agenda was the assistance program recently launched by NORAD and the UN Department for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (UNDOALOS), aimed at strengthening the capacities of developing States, including small islands States, in the field of ocean governance and the Law of the Sea.

The Ambassador received an extensive and interesting information about the aforementioned program, whose financing is provided by the Government of Norway as part of the “Oceans for Development” program administered by NORAD, while its activities are implemented by DOALOS, drawing on its long-standing experience in delivering responsive programmes of assistance in ocean affairs and the law of the sea.

It was an opportunity to highlight the recent visit to Cuba of the Norwegian sailboat “Statsraad Lehmkuhl”, as part of the One Ocean Expedition, a journey around the world to generate and disseminate knowledge for the sustainable management of the oceans and for the use and preservation of the ocean and the marine resources.
