Havana, 19 May 2021. Cuba today reached 540 thousand two vaccinated with the anti-Covid-19 candidates, Abdala and Soberana 02, in the process of health intervention for territories and risk groups.
According to the latest count by the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap), 239,626 people aged 19 years and over received an injection of Abdala, designed by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB).
These figures represent 53.7 percent of the universe of 396,382 subjects scheduled to be immunized in the municipalities of Regla, Guanabacoa, Habana del Este and San Miguel del Padrón, where the health intervention began on May 12.
In addition, 300,376 health workers and vulnerable groups already have the first or more dose of the CIGB product or the proposal of the Finlay Vaccine Institute (IFV), Soberana 02.
This means 63.4 percent of the 474 thousand 676 citizens expected to participate in the process.
In the Cuban capital, the municipalities Plaza de la Revolución, Playa, Centro Habana, Habana Vieja, Diez de Octubre, La Lisa and Marianao, which are part of the phase III trial of Soberana 02, must join the health intervention in the second half of June. next, with a population universe of 928 thousand 627 people.
The health intervention began this day in the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, where they plan to immunize 48,664 inhabitants.
Previously, it had started in the provinces of Santiago de Cuba, whose universe to be vaccinated is 743 thousand 806 people; Matanzas, with 563 thousand 928 and Pinar del RÃo, 271 thousand 611 people from 19 to 49 years old.
Likewise, said process with Abdala was authorized in 805 thousand 909 older adults, and in two million 881 thousand 713 people between 40 and 59 years of age, for the second half of June.
According to the projections of the Minsap regarding health intervention, these actions should contribute to the reduction of the sick and the deceased; as well as controlling the transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which will make it possible to return to the common activities of society.
The process is carried out in the country after the administration of 415,161 doses of Abdala and Soberana 02 in a period of two months.
It is based on the results in the early phases of the clinical trials of these immunogens and the preliminary data provided by the intervention studies.
Minsap authorities explained that those who participate in the health intervention, upon receiving the three doses of Abdala, designed in stages of zero, 14-28 days; and Soberana 02, zero, 28-56 days; They will increase their antibody titers in the body to fight the coronavirus, which causes Covid-19.
The health intervention is not considered as mass vaccination since all the country’s territories do not participate in it, experts have referred.
