Cuba appreciates support from G-77 and China for lifting blockade against Cuba

New York, 30 November 2021. Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, participated today at the 45th Ministerial Meeting of the Group of 77 and China, within the framework of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

At the event, he expressed his gratitude for the organization’s unyielding support for the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba.

He stated that this criminal policy, which is opportunistically intensified in times of pandemic and constitutes the main obstacle to the development of the island, is compounded by the millions of dollars in resources that the United States earmark to subvert the Cuban constitutional order, having substantially hindered Cuba’s fight against the pandemic.

Nevertheless, Rodríguez Parrilla affirmed, Cuba has developed one of the most effective strategies in the world for controlling and confronting COVID-19, and has managed to reduce contagions and deaths and has immunized 82.2 percent of its population, including pediatric age groups, with homegrown vaccines. We aspire to the total vaccination of our people before the end of 2021, he pointed out.

In addition, as part of the global fight against COVID-19, the Caribbean nation has sent 57 medical brigades to 40 countries and territories.

The Cuban Foreign Minister reiterated at the meeting that his country will not renounce its spirit of solidarity and humanism; and as such, it will continue to work for the right of our peoples to self-determination and development and for a democratic, fair and equitable international order.
