Ambassador offers update on Cuba to members of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO) in Oslo.

Oslo, March 4, 2022. The ambassador, Maité Rivero Torres, held a pleasant exchange with the members of the International Relations Commission of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO) in Oslo.

After being introduced to those present by the Head of the Commission, Brit R. Fredheim, the Ambassador offered updated information on topics of interest on the Cuban reality, including the current state of the pandemic, the progress of the vaccination process, the popular consultation on the new Family Code, the economic situation and the priorities that focus the work of the State and the Government. Likewise, she addressed the current state of relations with the United States and, in this context, the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed against Cuba by that country, as well as the campaign of destabilization and subversion carried out with the goal of overthrowing the Revolution.

The members of the Commission, through different questions, showed great interest and appreciated the opportunity.

At the request of Ingunn Gjerstad, president of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO) in Oslo, who was present at the meeting, Olaf Svorstøl, a veteran trade unionist, intervened to offer an overview of the history of friendly and cooperative relations existing between the LO branch in Oslo and the CTC in Havana.
