The consolidation of the bilateral cooperation relations between Cuba and Burundi materialized through the reciprocal visa exemption

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation Ambassador Albert Shingiro indicated that the abolition of visas for the holders of the diplomatic, the official and the service passports will allow a faster exchange, a regularity and a fluidity of travel of the officials of the two countries, and their relations of friendship and cooperation will be strengthened. He stressed that those relations would create the favorable conditions for the economic, the commercial and the investment cooperation activities between the two countries. That was said during a plenary session in the hemicycle of the National Assembly on Friday January 12, 2024 where he was the guest and the Government Representative.
On the political level, the relations between Burundi and Cuba were cemented by an Agreement on the Reciprocal Visa Exemption for the Holders of the Diplomatic, Official and the Service Passports and a Memorandum of Understanding on the Regular Political Consultations between the Government of the Republic of Burundi and the Government of the Republic of Cuba, signed on September 14, 2023.
The Government of the Republic of Burundi has not turned a blind eye to the assistance that the Cuban Government has offered to Burundi. He in turn increased the living expenses for the members of the Cuban Medical Mission stationed in Burundi.
The relations of friendship and cooperation between Burundi and Cuba are for a long-standing. The cooperation is mainly focused in the fields of education, health and politics. In the field of education, the Cuban Government continues to offer the medical scholarships. In the area of health, the Government of Cuba has been providing the medical technical assistance to Burundi for a long time to effectively alleviate the health problems in the country and give impetus to the cooperation through an integral health care system in the different levels despite the rupture during the outbreak and continuation of the protests of 2015 and the period of covid 2019.
However, the relations of cooperation between Burundi and Cuba need to be further strengthened.
