The Ambassador of Burundi to Berlin presents her letters of credence

In February 2022, Germany, like other member countries of the European Union, decided to give up the sanctions it had taken against Burundi. The two parties then decided to warm up and strengthen the relations of cooperation under the enlightened leadership of His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic of Burundi through his new political orientations. There wish is that the relations of friendship and cooperation between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Burundi can further improve.
On February 14, 2024, the Ambassador of Burundi to Berlin, Mrs.Annonciate SENDAZIRASA, presented her letters of credence to His Excellency Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Burundi and Germany have concluded a technical cooperation agreement since 1965, a cooperation which has experienced the ups and downs during its evolution, depending on the political situations experienced by Burundi. Indeed, in 1993, the friendly relations cooled between Germany and Burundi until Germany suspended some programs through which it supported Burundi, and relations resumed in 2002. In 2015 the two parties experienced the misunderstandings relating to the political situation in Burundi and Germany partially suspended its financial support to Burundi.
As a priority, it would be desirable for both the parties to seek maintaining the good relations. Note that the Federal Republic of Germany is an important partner for Burundi which is called upon to support the priority actions of the Government with the aim of strengthening the sustainable development of the country.
