Celebration of the International Women’s rights Day

 Women of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation joined other women around the world on Wednesday March 09, 2022 to celebrate the International Women’s rights Day, 2022 edition.

In her speech, Mrs. Rose NDAYIKEZA who represented the gender unit in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation thanked the Ministry for having thought about them for the day dedicated to them and the value that the Ministry reserves for women. She also thanked the Head of State of Burundi for his commitment to the well-being of women and particularly for the establishment of the Bank for Investment and Development for Women (BIDF). She invited the women of this Ministry to participate in different activities for the economic development of their families and their country by referring to this year’s theme “Women at the center of agricultural development and environmental protection”.

For Mr. Ferdinand BASHIKAKO, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation who represented the Minister stated that the International Women’s rights Day for our days, is an opportunity offered to women to assess their role in the development of their households and their countries, the step taken in the realization of their projects and their objectives of their action plans with a view to ensuring the development of women. The Permanent Secretary also thanked the Head of State and the Government of Burundi for many actions they are undertaking in favor of the economic development of women.

In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, women occupy a place of more than 53% and perform various activities and thus play a very important role in the economic development of the country. The women of the Ministry are often asked for other functions elsewhere following their bravery underlined the Permanent Secretary.

He closed his speech by inviting the women of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation to open accounts at BIDF and to develop development projects to be submitted to this bank for financing and to invest in agricultural development and environmental protection.
