The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova received the Secretary General of the Anti-Drug Trafficking Staff of Iran Gen. Eskandar Momeni, as part of the official program for the 10th session of the Joint Bulgarian-Iranian Commission for Combating Drugs.

The talks focused on Tehran’s efforts to address growing challenges related to illegal migration, the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking, especially in the context of the Afghanistan crisis, as well as opportunities to intensify bilateral cooperation between Bulgaria and Iran within the considered area.

Deputy Minister Petrova pointed out that Bulgaria is monitoring with concern the crisis in Afghanistan and the registered increase in the flow of refugees to Iran. She thanked the Iranian side for its efforts to help and shelter large numbers of Afghan migrants on its territory.

We are looking forward to traditionally good relations with Iran and hope that on the eve of the 125th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2022 we will witness a new rise in our political and sectoral dialogue, said the Bulgarian Deputy Minister of foreign affairs.
