Key nuclear non-proliferation agreement’s 25th anniversary

Australia is intensifying its efforts to strengthen the nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation regime under the Albanese government. This entails collaborating with the international community to stop the spread of nuclear weapons, reduce weapon stockpiles, and encourage nuclear technology and science use in a secure, peaceful manner.

Russia’s feeble and desperate nuclear threats over its unprovoked, immoral war with North and Ukraine Korea, which is developing nuclear weapons still, highlight the pressing need for advancements in nuclear disarmament.

Australia has been implementing the Additional Protocol( AP) to its Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency( IAEA) for 25 years as of this month.

The highest guarantees of adherence to our nuclear non-proliferation obligations are proposed by the Additional Protocol. As a requirement for supply, it is also essential to Australia’s uranium export policy.

The Additional Protocol, which 140 states have ratified now, has received active international support from Australia. IAEA’s additional protocol for nuclear safeguard verification

With the Additional Protocol and its own close ties to the IAEA, Australia sets a strong example for the rest of the global world regarding nuclear material protection.

Through the Australian Safeguards Support Program, we are bolstering the global non-proliferation regime.

The Labor Party’s enduring commitment to a world without nuclear weapons, high non-proliferation standards, and proud history of supporting practical disarmament efforts will all be upheld by the Albanese government.
