Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, welcomed in a meeting her counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia, Bujar Osmani.
Minister Xhaçka stressed that Albania together with North Macedonia have met the conditions for the adoption of the negotiating framework, as well as for the holding of the first Intergovernmental Conference.
“Everyone who knows our region, I believe understands that the reason why both Albania and North Macedonia, have been able to take such bold steps forward, is because the majority of our populations believe in the European perspective. It would be unfortunate, if the great work and the great confidence was rejected again, because of the subjective, political considerations of the member countries, at a time when the objective, technical evaluation by the Council and its decision in March 2020 has been positive”, stated the minister during the joint press statement.
Chief diplomat Xhaçka praised the role of the Albanian factor in North Macedonia, describing it as crucial in the Euro-Atlantic processes and as a bridge of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
In his speech, Minister Osmani expressed openness for mutual cooperation between the two countries, emphasizing that this will bring a new impetus to the Balkan region. He also expressed enthusiasm for the signing of a bilateral cooperation agreement in the field of diaspora as well as for the trilateral cooperation Albania – North Macedonia – Bulgaria.
The arrival of Minister Osmani in Tirana marks the first visit of a Foreign Minister in Albania, since the arrival of Minister Xhaçka at the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
