BILATERAL RELATIONS BETWEEN ALBANIA AND UKRAINE

Bilateral relations with Ukraine are improving rapidly in the last years. Diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Albania ëere established on January 13, 1993.

Ukraine is a country in Eastern Europe. The country’s capital and largest city is Kiev. The official and national language is Ukrainian. Ukraine regained its independence on August 24, 1991 with the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Since its independence, Ukraine has been governed as a unitary republic under a semi-presidential system. Population: 47 732 079.
Albania since the beginning of the illegal annexation of Crimea has maintained a clear and unwavering stance in defense of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, in line with the position of the EU and the US. Following the start of the aggression by the Russian Federation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Albania has joined its partners and allies in support of Ukraine, reiterating its unwavering support for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, within its borders, internationally recognized.
On March 18, 2022, was approved the DCM no. 169, on “Setting the deadline for the entry and stay of Ukrainian citizens in the Republic of Albania. According to the DCM, Ukrainian citizens have the right to enter and stay in Albania without a residence permit for a period of up to one year.
On May 3, 2022, the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered a speech in the Albanian Parliament. The Ukrainian President thanked Albania for the concrete support, for the defense assistance, for the support of the sanctions against Russia, for the cooperation of the countries in the UN platform and for the care and reception of the Ukrainian children in Durrës.

Our countries are also connected by a bridge of friendship thanks to the Albanian diaspora in Ukraine (Odessa region). About 3,500 Albanians live in Ukraine.
 
During 2020, bilateral relations were further intensified, on September 1, 2020, Ukraine increased the level of its diplomatic representation in Albania and opened its Embassy in Tirana. Also in 2020, Albania opened its diplomatic mission, within the OSCE Presidency.
BILATERAL RELATIONS BETWEEN ALBANIA AND UKRAINE
On May 5, 2022, the Prime Minister of Albania, Mr. Edi Rama stated at the Donors’ Conference for Ukraine in Warsaw that Albania will contribute to Ukraine with 1 million euros.
On March 18, was approved the DCM no. 173, dated 18.03.2022, “On granting temporary protection to Ukrainian citizens, stateless persons and persons who have acquired international protection in Ukraine, with temporary or permanent residence in Ukraine, as well as for the establishment of the Management Task Force of the flow of applicants for international protection”.
