Iran Expresses Readiness to Host Peace Talks and Support Afghan Peace Process

KABUL – Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Haneef Atmar met with the Special Representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian, this afternoon.

Minister Atmar congratulated the government and people of Iran on the successful presidential elections and the victory of H.E. Sayed Ebrahim Raisi, expressing gratitude to Iran for its comprehensive support to the Afghan peace process.

Referring to the growing importance of friendly and fraternal relations between Kabul and Tehran, Minister Atmar stressed the need to further strengthen and expand bilateral relations.

Minister Atmar also underscored the urgent need to strengthen regional consensus for the success of the peace process and called Iran’s role in this regard important and valuable.

Iran’s special envoy assured Minister Atmar of his government’s support to the peace process, stating that Tehran was ready to host the Afghan peace talks.

He added that Iran fully supported the Afghan government’s agenda for peace and all initiatives that contribute to the success of the Afghan Peace Process and preserve the Islamic Republic system.
