United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF)

The American Center also hosts the Fulbright Commission in Chennai – United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF).

USIEF was established in 1950 to promote mutual understanding between the people of the United States and India through the U.S. Government’s flagship Fulbright Program for educational and cultural exchange.  In India, the Fulbright-Nehru Fellowships are jointly funded by the governments of the United States and India.  Fulbright-Nehru and other Fulbright Fellowships provide fully-funded opportunities for Indian academics, students, and professionals to visit the United States for research and/or to teach.  The program also provides opportunities for American citizens to visit India for similar professional development purposes.  Each year, the Fellowships are announced by the end of January.  For more information on eligible fields of study and other criteria, please visit www.usief.org.in.

In addition to the Fulbright Fellowships, USIEF’s EducationUSA Center provides guidance to Indian students about applying to U.S. colleges and universities for undergraduate and graduate programs.  EducationUSA, the official source on U.S. higher education, is a global network of advising centers in more than 175 countries that is supported by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA).  EducationUSA advisers reach prospective student audiences through in-person and virtual events, including education fairs and outreach events at schools, universities, and other public venues to provide information about U.S. higher education.  Extending beyond personal interaction, the EducationUSA network reaches millions of students through webinars and social media platforms to provide accurate, comprehensive, and current information about studying in the United States.

The recommended five-step process to study in the United States is available on https://educationusa.state.gov/your-5-steps-us-study.  Students and parents from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and the respective Union Territories of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry can contact the EducationUSA Center in Chennai for general information and/or fee-based personalized guidance by email:  chennai@educationusa.org  or WhatsApp/telephone: 95000 84773.

Yashna Trust, located in Bangalore, hosts EducationUSA and is the only official source on U.S. higher education in the state of Karnataka.  Through its in-person and virtual events/services, the center is committed to helping international students find their best fit U.S. higher education institutions.  Students can sign up for cohort advising or a personalized annual guided advising membership to help build a strong application.
