Honduran Independence Day

On behalf of the Government of the United States and the American people, I congratulate the people of Honduras on this very special 200th anniversary of independence.

The United States and Honduras enjoy a long history of collaboration and are closely connected by culture, geography, family ties, and trade.  This past year we have stood together to fight COVID-19 as the United States donated over 3 million vaccines and millions of dollars in supplies to help the Honduran people mitigate the spread of the pandemic.  We worked together to help Hondurans recover from the devastation of twin hurricanes and rebuild toward a brighter future.  General elections in November offer a critical opportunity to demonstrate the resilience and strength of Honduras’ democracy.

As we strengthen the bonds between our two nations, the United States remains committed to supporting Honduras in promoting inclusive economic growth, addressing shared migration challenges, combating corruption, promoting human rights, fighting transnational crime, mitigating the impact of the climate crisis, and helping to protect all vulnerable populations.  We recognize the significance of this bicentennial for Honduras, and we look forward to working together to strengthen democratic and economic cooperation.

We wish Honduras a happy bicentennial Independence Day.
