The group “Hindu Munnani” has announced protests throughout Chennai at Hindu temples against the ban of Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations due to Covid. The group has called for protests today, September 2nd and Monday, September 6th. The start and end times for the protests are unknown.
We remind all U.S. citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations. Review your personal security plans, remain aware of your surroundings, including local events, monitor local news stations for updates, and report specific incidences of targeted violence to local law enforcement.
