Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Bitter and Special Advisor on International Disability Rights Minkara Travel to Kingston – United States Department of State

Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Rena Bitter will travel January 16-18 to Kingston, Jamaica, where she will be joined by Special Advisor on International Disability Rights (SAIDR) Sara Minkara.  They will meet with host government officials to discuss consular priorities of mutual interest and support Jamaica’s efforts in implementing the 2022 Disabilities Act, which outlines provisions for greater inclusion of persons with disabilities in Jamaican society in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights for Persons with Disabilities.

In Kingston, Assistant Secretary Bitter will also meet with U.S. Embassy consular staff and observe consular operations.  The trip underscores our deep and sustained commitment to the protection of U.S. citizens overseas, the promotion of disability-inclusive travel for U.S. citizen travelers, and the facilitation of legitimate travel and immigration to the United States.

Assistant Secretary Bitter will also visit Atlanta, Georgia, on January 18, where she will review U.S. passport facility operations and meet with staff.
