Marking International Day, Secretary-General Honours 6 Million Holocaust Sufferers, Stressing ‘Never Again Stay Silent in the Face of Evil’

Following is the text associated with UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ video message for the Global Day of Commemoration within Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust, observed today: In remembering the Holocaust, we recognize risks to freedom, dignity, and humanity – including in our own time.   Today — in the face of growing economic discontent and political lack of stability, escalating white supremacist terrorism, and surging hate plus religious bigotry — we must be more outspoken than ever. Even as we mourn the loss of so many therefore much, we also know that the Holocaust was not inevitable.   No genocide actually is.   It was the culmination of millennia of antisemitic hate. We should never forget — nor permit others to ever forget about, distort or deny the particular Holocaust.   Today every day, let us resolve to never again remain silent in the face of evil — and to usually defend the dignity plus rights of all.   Thank you. The Nazis could only move with calculated cruelty from the discrimination of Europe’s Jews to their annihilation because so couple of stood up, and so many stood by.   It was the deafening silence — both at home and abroad — that emboldened them. The alarm bells had been ringing from the very beginning.   Hate speech and disinformation.   Contempt for individual rights and the rule associated with law.   The glorification of violence and tales of racial supremacy.   Disdain for democracy plus diversity. Today, we honour the memory of the sufferers of the Holocaust.   We all remember the 6  mil Jewish children, women, and men, as well as the Roma and Sinti, the people with afflictions and countless others who perished.   We think about the millions of individual life cut short; the a lot of futures stolen away.
