Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Niger on 21 July 2020.
Minister Çavuşoğlu was received by President Issoufou Mahamadou of Niger and conveyed him the greetings and best wishes of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that we were the country that understands Niger the best in the fight against terrorism and stated that we were going to contribute to the development of Niger particularly in the fields of agriculture, mining, transportation, construction and energy.
On the same day, Minister Çavuşoğlu held a meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, African Integration and Nigeriens Abroad, Kalla Ankourao of Niger.
Following the meeting, the two Ministers held a joint press conference.
Minister Çavuşoğlu expressed that his visit to Niger was the first visit at Foreign Ministerial level from Turkey to Niger, that we supported Niger’s efforts to fight against terrorism with the agreements signed that day and that we would further develop our cooperation in defence industry, education and health sectors.
Minister Çavuşoğlu also emphasized that we expected more active support of the Sahel countries that were affected by the current situation in Libya to the political solution.
Finally, Minister Çavuşoğlu was received by Prime Minister Brigi Rafini of Niger and conveyed him also the greetings and best wishes of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
During this sincere and productive meeting, further steps to be taken to enhance the current cooperation in the fields of energy, agriculture and mining were evaluated.
Within the framework of the visit, the “Material Delivery Protocol”, the “Implementation Protocol Regarding the Financial Assistance”, the “Military Training Cooperation Agreement” and the “Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Youth and Sports” were signed.
