On 9 February 2021, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Kuwait, the first stop of his visits to the Gulf, to discuss all aspects of our bilateral relations and also to exchange views on international issues.
At first, Minister Çavuşoğlu was received by Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah of Kuwait and conveyed him the greetings and best wishes of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Minister Çavuşoğlu expressed that there was a positive environment in Gulf thanks to Kuwait’s mediation, and that we congratulated Kuwait for its successful diplomatic efforts.
On the same day, Minister Çavuşoğlu met with the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah of Kuwait.
Minister Çavuşoğlu noted that we wished a strong, unified and stable Gulf region, that we would continue to work with the Gulf Cooperation Council, and that we would increase our cooperation in the fields of health and economy.
Later that day, Minister Çavuşoğlu was received by the Prime Minister of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah.
Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that we wished to work closely with the newly formed cabinet, that we maintained our bilateral trade volume despite the pandemic and that we were pleased that the Turkish construction companies undertook important projects in Kuwait.
Later, Minister Çavuşoğlu met with Speaker Marzouq Ali Mohammed Al-Ghanim of the National Assembly of Kuwait, congratulated him on his re-election and conveyed him the greetings of Speaker Mustafa Şentop of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
Minister Çavuşoğlu also underlined that Kuwait had an exemplary parliamentary tradition and that we attached importance to inter-parliamentary relations.
Finally, Minister Çavuşoğlu had a meeting with Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah of Kuwait to discuss all aspects of our bilateral relations.
Minister Çavuşoğlu also emphasized that the latest developments in Iraq, Syria and Libya were discussed during the meeting, and that we would advance our cooperation with Kuwait in all fields including defense, health, culture and education.
