Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu held a meeting in Ankara with Bashkan Irina Vlah of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia of the Republic of Moldova on 22 February 2021.

During the fruitful meeting, cooperation opportunities were discussed.

Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that our Gagauz kinsmen were a bridge of friendship with Moldova, and that we would continue to support them in every field.

On the same day, Minister Çavuşoğlu addressed via videoconference the High Level Segment of the 46th Session of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council held in Geneva.

Minister Çavuşoğlu pointed out that xenophobia, racism, Islamophobia and hate speech were on the rise, and noted that although freedom of speech was key to any democracy, that freedom did not give the right to insult the sacred values of others.

Minister Çavuşoğlu also expressed that terrorism remained one of the leading global threats, that recently the PKK terrorist organization had murdered 13 innocent lives in northern Iraq but the world remained silent again, and that without international solidarity we could not eradicate that threat.

Minister Çavuşoğlu also underlined that the promotion and protection of human rights remained a top priority for us, and that Turkey would continue to engage with the Council for the protection and promotion of human rights for all.

Later that day, Minister Çavuşoğlu delivered via videoconference a speech at the High-Level Opening Session titled “From Istanbul to Doha-Towards a New Decade of Partnerships for Least Developed Countries (LDCs)” of the Africa Regional Review Meeting in preparation of the 5th UN Conference on LDCs.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stressed that Africa needed solid leadership and support from development partners, and that throughout the process we would continue to stand by LDCs by all our means.

Finally, Minister Çavuşoğlu met respectively with Ambassadors Herve Magro of France, Alisher Agzamhodjayev of Uzbekistan and Phantipha Iamsudha Ekarohit of Thailand and discussed all aspects of our bilateral relations.
