Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs met with US Senior Advisor

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs met today (Wednesday 01st December 2021) with Mr. Hugo F. Rodriguez, Senior Advisor, Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, US State Department, at the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs.

This meeting took place ahead of the virtual Summit for Democracy which is scheduled for December 9-10, 2021, and to which an official invitation from U.S. President J Biden was accepted by Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Keith C. Rowley.

Prime Minister Rowley will make a statement at the Summit.

At today’s meeting Minister Browne and US Senior Advisor Rodriguez discussed a wide range of issues including the strong United States and Trinidad and Tobago bilateral relationship, climate change and commitments made by both nations at COP 26, matters related to trafficking in persons, and exploration of a possible High-Level visit to Washington DC.

On the issue of the recent COVID-related US Level 4 Travel Advisory, US Senior Advisor Hugo F. Rodriguez emphasized that notwithstanding the travel guidance currently being provided to US citizens, there are no country-specific measures being contemplated to limit the travel of fully vaccinated individuals from Trinidad and Tobago to the United States.

Mr. Rodriguez was accompanied by Mr. Shanté Moore, Charge d’Affaires, and Ms. Megan Kelly of the US Embassy in POS.
