MOFA thanks International Cooperation on Cosmetics Regulation for granting formal membership to Taiwan

December 9, 2020
No. 293

The Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) has been admitted as a full member to the International Cooperation on Cosmetics Regulation (ICCR). This decision was made unanimously by the ICCR Steering Committee during its 14th annual meeting, held virtually December 7-9. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) welcomes this development and thanks the Steering Committee for its support.

Since 2016, the TFDA has participated as an observer in the ICCR’s annual meetings and working groups. Obtaining full membership shows the ICCR’s affirmation of Taiwan’s efforts to bring its cosmetics regulations into line with international standards. This is a result of our government’s efforts to expand Taiwan’s international participation in a pragmatic, professional, and constructive manner. MOFA will continue to coordinate with the TFDA to strengthen its participation in the ICCR and advance international cosmetics regulations and consumer protection in Taiwan and around the world.

Established in 2007, the ICCR consists of the cosmetics regulatory authorities of member countries and industry trade associations. The group aims to eliminate trade barriers and strengthen consumer protection worldwide through harmonizing cosmetics regulations and supervisory cooperation. ICCR members include Brazil, Canada, the European Union, Japan, and the United States—as well as South Korea and Taiwan—the latter two having been admitted at this year’s annual meeting. (E)
