MOFA responds to InterPride’s accurate reference to Taiwan in a statement and graphic

Regarding InterPride’s accurate reference to Taiwan in a statement and graphic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) responds as follows:
On the evening of November 16, Taipei time, InterPride issued its latest English-language statement congratulating Kaohsiung Pride on winning the bid to host WorldPride 2025. The statement made an accurate reference to Taiwan and was accompanied by a graphic announcing the 2025 event that featured a rainbow symbol and Taiwan’s name in both Chinese and English. MOFA acknowledges and welcomes this positive development.
In its November 12 announcement that Kaohsiung had won the right to host WorldPride 2025, InterPride’s press release referred to Taiwan as “the region of Taiwan.” MOFA promptly sought to maintain close contact with Kaohsiung Pride, InterPride, and Kaohsiung City government. MOFA is pleased that all parties engaged in discussions based on the common goal that WorldPride 2025 would be held in Kaohsiung and that their efforts led to the issuance of a statement by InterPride that was acceptable to all parties.
InterPride pointed out in its statement that it has been working toward gaining general consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council so as to better serve the global LGBTQIA+ community, necessitating its alignment with UN requirements. MOFA recognizes InterPride’s longstanding efforts to promote gender equality in the global arena. MOFA also urges the international community to seriously and squarely face the issue of the inappropriate and extensive misinterpretation of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 over the years. In this way, the long-term endeavors of InterPride and numerous other NGOs that support the protection of human rights will not be invalidated.
