Women, Peace and Security

Sweden adopted its third national action plan in 2016. Efforts to implement the action plan has involved a wide range of concrete measures to advance women, peace, and security in some thirty countries, including Ukraine, Myanmar, and Somalia. Sweden has continued its consistent efforts to improve the integration of the women, peace, and security agenda in the work of the UN Security Council as well as in the EU and OSCE.

The report shows in brief that the focus of the action plan on leadership, ownership and integration of women, peace and security into regular activities has yielded results. Swedish authorities such as the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the Folke Bernadotte Academy, the Armed Forces, the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency and the Swedish Police Authority have conducted comprehensive work on training and capacity-building measures for civilian and military actors, both internally and externally with partners.
