Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Lebanon Shani Calyaneratne Karunaratne and Second Secretary (Labour) T.Luxmidharan, visited the World Bank Regional Headquarters, Beirut, Lebanon, on a courtesy visit to meet Regional Director, Mashreq Department (Middle East) Saroj Kumar Jha, on 25 June, 2021.
Mashreq Department covers Middle East Operations of the World Bank and is responsible for Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Iran.
During the meeting, Ambassador Karunaratne and Director Jha discussed the Economic situation in Lebanon, the depreciation of the Lebanese Pound (LBP) against US Dollar in the black market, the Lebanese Inflation, the fuel and electricity shortages in Lebanon and the World Bank funded vaccination programs.
