Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan has written to German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Heiko Maas to express his condolences in response to the tragic loss of lives and devastation caused by the floods in Germany. The letter is appended.
The severe flooding experienced by Germany, reportedly the worst in the last 50 years, has also affected some regions in its neighbouring countries. Singapore’s Overseas Missions in Berlin, Brussels, and Geneva are in close contact with the respective local authorities to ascertain whether there are any Singaporeans affected by the floods. Thus far, there are no reports of Singaporean casualties.
