PUBLIC HOLIDAY FOR GENERAL ELECTIONS 2021

The public, business communities, shop owners, employers and workers are hereby advised that in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays Act 2008, the Public Holidays declared for General Elections are as follows:

  • Thursday 8th April 2021; and
  • Friday 9th April 2021

It is important for all registered voters to do their votes for the general election, and employers are advised to make necessary arrangements for their staff who are required to work on these specific dates.

Shops selling goods may open during public holidays according to the provisions of the Public Holidays Act 2008. However, employers are reminded to comply with section 39 of the Labour and Employment Relations Act 2013 regarding the rate of wages to be paid to employees who work on Public Holidays.
