(GOVT. PRESS SECRETARIAT 20th January 2022.) – Despite the 10 positive COVID19 cases imported by Samoans who arrived yesterday (19th January 2022) on the Direct Repatriation Flight from Brisbane Australia, Samoa is still at Level 1-Yellow and there is no Lockdown as anticipated.

And NEOC is well aware of the panicky mode by the country but rest assured the national security of the country and our residents is paramount and the Prime Minister and her Cabinet, reassured N.E.O.C. Chairman and Secretary to Government.

NEOC is keeping a vigil that the containment measures in place will not fail the country.

In the meantime, Cabinet today did not hesitate to shelf the Repatriation Flight from Auckland New Zealand scheduled for Saturday 22nd January 2022 until further notice.

“Cabinet is also revisiting all approved incoming flights from Australia between now and March in light of the positive cases from Brisbane,” Agafili announced.

“Tough calls have to be made during tough times and we urge the country to follow the COVID19 Code guidelines to ensure that we are all safe,” Agafili added. “We are aware that some maybe frustrated with the decision not to enforce a lockdown but there are widening national issues in play that Cabinet has taken on board.”
