BARRE DE L’ÎLE SLOPE STABILISATION AND MILLENNIUM HIGHWAY ROADWORKS CONTINUE DEC. 1.
The Ministry of Infrastructure, Ports, Transport, Physical Development and Urban Renewal wishes to inform the general and motoring public that two major roadworks projects (Barre de l’Île and Millennium Highway) are set to commence on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.
The Barre de l’Île slope stabilization project will focus on the section of the carriageway compromised as a result of heavy rainfall in May 2021.The scope of works will involve road embankment reinstatement, drainage works and the restoration of the full carriageway.
Aaron’s Heavy Equipment Rentals Ltd., has been awarded the contract for execution of the Barre de l’Île works. The works are expected to be completed in no more than four (4) months. However, uncertainties related to the weather, geology and unforeseen circumstances may result in delays.
Preconstruction works on the Millennium Highway will also commence on December 1. The rehabilitation of the roadway will be undertaken by C.O Williams Construction Company Ltd, and is expected to be completed in 18 months.
Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution when traversing the vicinity of the two projects, and to adhere to the corresponding signage. The Department of Infrastructure, Ports and Transport wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused as a result of the upcoming roadworks.
