BCF registers major success in curbing COVID-19 spread among inmates

THE FACILITY REGISTERED 280 FULL RECOVERIES ON MARCH 25.

The Bordelais Correctional Facility (BCF) is reporting significant COVID-19 recoveries among inmates. Effective Thursday, March 25, the facility registered 280 full recoveries among inmates.   Latest figures revealed that there were only 9 active cases among the prison population.

On February 28, the Ministry of Health received confirmation of 105 positive COVID-19 test results for inmates at the island’s only penal facility. Following this outbreak, prison authorities are now reporting that the spread of the virus has been brought under control through sustained efforts and the implementation of some innovative measures.

The Bordelais Correctional Facility commits to a continuation of the modus operandi that has been proven successful in reducing the spread of the virus. It continues to work closely with the Ministry of Health as well as the Department of Home Affairs and National Security to contain the infiltration of COVID-19 among both staff and inmates. The staff of the facility will continue to receive vaccines in the coming days.

The BCF’s management commends the public for being very understanding of some of the new measures put in place during the pandemic, including a mechanism for virtual visits between inmates and family members. Physical visits are not permitted at this time.
