Diplomatic Relations (Kingdom of Jordan)

London – today, 9th December 2020, His Excellency Dr Kevin M. Isaac was received at the Embassy of Jordan by His Excellency Ambassador Omar Al Nahar where the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan signed a joint communique formalising diplomatic relations between the two countries.

High Commissioner Isaac thanked Ambassador Al Nahar for his warm reception, commitment to a new partnership and for sharing information on the rich history and current developments of the Kingdom of Jordan. His Excellency Isaac suggested that Jordan wore the crown of ancient history and charm, but that St. Kitts and Nevis also has a rich history of its own. “Our countries share a love of culture and this makes us unique. We look forward to forging stronger bonds of friendship and partnership and hope we can collaborate in the areas of cultural diplomacy, art diplomacy and tourism.”

The Kingdom of Jordan is an Arab country located in the Levant region of Southwest Asia along the Arabian Peninsula. The Kingdom of Jordan is at the crossroads of the continents of Asia, Africa and Europe. Jordan’s capital city, Amman is also known as the culinary city. Jordan’s principal sources of foreign exchange are phosphates, potash (and their fertilizer derivatives) tourism and overseas remittances. Politically, Jordan is a constitutional monarchy, with King Abdullah II as Head of State.

Considering that both countries have economies steeped in heritage tourism and both were severely impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, as seasoned diplomats, Excellency Isaac and Excellency Al Nahar discussed ways to boost the economies of St. Kitts and Nevis and Jordan after the global downturn in travel and tourism.

Both Excellences agreed that familiarisation trips to Jordan and St. Kitts and Nevis was the next logical step forward but that the focus had to be on fighting the pandemic and keeping their countries safe. As both Envoys discussed future collaboration, Ambassador Al Nahar said, “signing diplomatic relations was the first step to building a long and successful relationship between the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.”
