Press Release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Gaza on Amnesty International Report

Feb 2, 2022

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Gaza has received with great pleasure the report issued by Amnesty International on Tuesday, Feb 1, regarding the designation of the occupation state as an apartheid regime.

This report is additional proof of the racist policies followed by the occupation state against the Palestinian people in a stark violation of their basic rights, granted under all religions and international laws.

Over decades, the occupation state has established a despicable regime based on racial segregation between Jewish settlers and Palestinians, the indigenous people of the land, whether in Jerusalem, Gaza, West Bank, or Occupied territories of 1948.

This hateful regime is especially obvious in the West Bank and Jerusalem, where the occupation state used to expropriate Palestinians’ lands and homes to establish illegal settlements for Jewish settlers.

As for religious rights, the occupation state has imposed restrictions on the rights of Palestinians to pray and practice their rituals and, at the same time, allowed Jewish extremists to perform provocative marches under its protection.

Moving to Gaza, the overpopulated city has been under blockade for more than 15 years, which is considered the longest collective punishment in human history, not to mention the frequent aggressions and the indiscriminate bombing of residential buildings and civilian infrastructure. Aggravating the suffering even more, the occupation still restricts the entry of building materials necessary for the reconstruction.

At the same time settlers enjoy the occupied Palestinian land, Palestinians in refugee camps live under inhuman conditions and are deprived of their lawful rights of returning back to their homes.

As we welcome the report of Amnesty International, we call upon all actors, including the UN General Assembly, UN Security Council, ICC, and the countries of the free world, to immediately act on the findings and recommendations of the report.

The time has come for the international community to change its approach to the Question of Palestine, abandon the gray area, and adopt practical and effective decisions to end the occupation and grant the Palestinians their lawful and due rights.

International and humanitarian organizations are all invited to follow the example of Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch and recognize the occupation state for what it is; an apartheid regime based on hate and racial segregation.

We also call upon all businesses and corporations to boycott the occupation state and cease all types of economic dealings with it, so it won’t be complicit in the racist policies practiced against our people.
