Blue and red national flag is fluttering high in the blue sky of our motherland.
Every country has its own national flag, and its design and color are all varying. Our national flag, whenever we look up at it, adds to the high dignity and pride of our people and promises them beautiful hope and future.
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has recorded over 70-year-long history, yet during this entire period our people’s minds have never been apart from the national flag even for a moment.
Ever since the founding of the DPRK, our national flag has never stopped its powerful fluttering, without losing its color and brightness, during the do-or-die wartime and the belt-tightening postwar rehabilitation period as well as the period when the red flags of the socialist countries were dejectedly lowered overnight in the former Soviet Union and the East Europe affected by the yellow wind of temptation by the imperialists.
Whenever we solemnly look up at our proud national flag shining with the dignity of powerful country, the benevolent image of President Kim Il Sung at the time when he personally guided the designing of our national flag into completion touches our hearts in deep emotions.
The President taught that the ground of the flag should be red color which would represent the blood shed by the fighters who had struggled for freedom and independence of the motherland as well as our revolutionary forces rallied behind the Party, and that the stripes in white color – which reflects the homogeneity of Korean nation with thousand-year-long brilliant national culture – should be thin and more salient. He also taught that the stripes in blue color – which represents the strong mettle of our people and the sovereignty of our Republic fighting for socialist cause in unity with the revolutionary peoples across the world – should be thinner, and that it would be good to put the white circle not in the middle as it is now but nearer to the flagpole and to place a five-pointed red star within the circle, which symbolizes victory of future. The President laid out a personally prepared design and gave detailed instructions on, inter alia, how the ratio of flag should be set.
In order to defend this national flag that vividly reflects the spirit and tradition of the resourceful and strong nation as well as the dignity and mettle of the independent people, Chairman Kim Jong Il countlessly traversed the steep climbs across Chol Pass and the cliffy roads of Mt. Osong with do-or-die spirit, strengthening our national defence capabilities.
Our national flag, which has only recorded victories and glories in the chronicles of our revolution, is now fluttering more powerfully in our socialist garden under the wise leadership of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.
Looking up at the national flag which embraces our destiny and future, all our people are now hardening their determination to add more brilliance to their loving motherland and national flag, faithfully upholding the leadership of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.
