Invariable Relations of Friendship between DPRK and Equatorial Guinea

January 30 marks the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.

The people of Equatorial Guinea achieved national independence on October 12, 1968 by putting an end to the colonial rule and have long waged the struggle for building a new society.

President Kim Il Sung provided sincere support – both materially and morally – and encouragement to the people of Equatorial Guinea in their struggle for building a new society and took profound measures to build a 1000-seat congress palace in the country.

In August 1984, President Kim Il Sung met with Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, who visited the DPRK and had an open-hearted talk with him to expand and develop the bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation, and highlighted valuable ways forward for the building of a new society in Equatorial Guinea.

President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo visited the DPRK again in April 1992 in high respect of and reverence for President Kim Il Sung. During his visit, he personally conferred the highest decoration of Equatorial Guinea on President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il.

Today, the friendly relations between the two countries are invariably strengthening and developing under the attention of Kim Jong Un, President of the State Affairs of the DPRK and President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.

The government and people of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea are now achieving successes in their efforts to develop the national economy and prevent the spread of malignant pandemic and actively working to raise the prestige of the country in the United Nations and other international arena.

The DPRK will as ever continue to make active efforts to develop the long-standing and traditional relations of friendship and cooperation with Equatorial Guinea.
