Minister Hoekstra: leave Ukraine

Minister of Foreign Affairs Wopke Hoekstra is calling on all Dutch nationals to leave Ukraine. ‘The security situation, which was already troubling, has deteriorated further over the past few days. In consultation with various allies, I am now taking the step of calling on all Dutch nationals to leave Ukraine.’ The current travel advisory for Ukraine can be read here (in Dutch).

Most embassy personnel will also be leaving Ukraine. A skeleton staff will remain on hand. The embassy can provide emergency aid, such as issuing emergency visas and laissez-passers, from its ‘meeting point’ in Lviv. Today, the travel advisory for the country has been raised to red: this means that Ukraine is deemed too dangerous to travel to. The government advises against any travel to the country, and Dutch nationals are encouraged to leave now, while commercial flights are still available. In addition, any Dutch nationals that intend to remain in Ukraine should register with the information service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
