Amman, 10 February 2021 – Representatives from the Jordanian Borders and Residency Department (BRD), the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands as donor and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) as implementing organisation will gather on the 10th of February, 2021 for the first Project Steering Committee meeting for the “Document Security Jordan” Project. The event will be organised in both physical (in Amman) and online format (with representatives located in Vienna). The Project Steering Committee meeting aims to officially kick-off the project, agree on the details of the project implementation and endorse the next steps, in particular the supply of equipment and training delivery.
The meeting will be chaired by representatives of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and co-chaired by ICMPD and serve as a platform for discussion and exchange of views on project implementation. The expected outcomes are the approval of the project work plan, project communication and visibility plan and joint agreement on the steps ahead. In the upcoming project implementation phase, the BRD document laboratory will be equipped and the staff will benefit from a number of capacity building activities by EU experts and improve information exchange in the field of document security.
“This border management project forms an integral part of the security cooperation between our two kingdoms. Additionally, our security alliance also covers military, counter-terrorism and PVE (preventing violent extremism) initiatives” said Lieutenant colonel Rosie de Kiefte, Defence Attache for the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Jordan.
“This Dutch supported “Document Security Jordan” initiative will function as a fully integrated element of ICMPD’s project “Integrated Border Management Jordan” which is funded by the European Union. These two projects will greatly support Jordan to control and manage its borders to ensure greater security for its citizens and visitors. The activities will fully take into account the specificities of Jordan to ensure the long-term sustainability of the project’s achievements” said Jean-Charles de Cordes, ICMPD Jordan project manager.
