As you may have noticed, 2020 was the year of the 50th anniversary of Erasmus Huis. We celebrated this the whole year through, of course as far as the pandemic allowed us to: sober.
But five decades of cultural collaboration between Indonesia and the Netherlands is something to be proud of! So many artists performed on our stage, so many exhibited in our expo hall, so many speakers were in our library. Dutch artists co-created and performed together with Indonesian artists. Visitors enjoyed and got inspired and were at their turn generous in showing their appreciation to the artists. Both artists and audience found each other in this universal language called ‘the arts’. We saw -and still see- great things happen when creative minds meet.
On January 27 we closed the celebration year with the great ’Erasmus Huis 50 Years Young-online celebration show’, live broadcasted from the Netherlands. Dutch and Indonesian artists looked back on the past 50 years, shared their experience and shined their light on the future. Two Dutch ministers (of Culture and Foreign Affairs) and the Indonesian minister of Education and Culture, Nadiem Makarim, congratulated the Erasmus Huis. Many performances were shown: Annabel Laura, Emil Landman with the Purwa Caraka Music Studio Children’s Choir, Pynarello and Kika Spangers. You can watch the show back via this link. Erasmus Huis is ready for the next 50 years! For the coming year we again have a lot of beautiful and vibrant experiences for you in store, either – depending on the world situation- virtual, hybrid or live. From design to dance, from film to architecture, from theatre to literature and from music to photography.
This year we will continue special programming for children, for example the successful Family Film Festival each third Sunday of the month, and I promise there will come more exciting performances and collaborations. Stay up to date via this newsletter and our social media channels.
Stay safe and healthy!
Best regards,
Yolande Melsert
