KENYA JOINS MEMBER STATES ON THE 48TH ORDINARY SESSION FROM THE IGAD COUNCIL OF MINISTERS

In his speech, Dr . Alfred Mutua acknowledged the congratulatory communications received from his co-workers on his appointment and indicated his gratitude on joining the Council.   The particular CS thanked his Sudanese counterpart and Chair from the Ministerial meeting for his invitation to participate in the particular meeting, noting that the 48 th session creates an opportunity just for members to deliberate upon strategies and issues of shared interest.

Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Dr . Alfred Mutua participated at the 48 th Ordinary Session of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Council of Ministers that will took place in Khartoum, Sudan on November 30, 2022.   The meeting composed of of Ministers of International Affairs of the seven Associate States took place under the chairmanship of the Republic of Sudan.
Whilst reaffirming Kenya’s solidarity with all IGAD Member States in their pursuit for sustainable strategies to long lasting peace, security plus development in the region, Dr . Alfred Mutua called on his co-workers to give unreserved contribution and support to the organisation to ensure absolute implementation of its mandate. He also welcomed the establishment of the IGAD Management academy to be hosted simply by Kenya.
In attendance were Ministers of Foreign Affairs from Sudan, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Somalia and Southern Sudan. Uganda was represented by its Ambassador within Sudan. IGAD Secretariat, directed by Executive Secretary Mr. Workneh Gabeyehu were furthermore present.   Italy, which co-chairs the IGAD Companions Forum and representatives in the European Union and the United States of America furthermore attended.
The session concluded with the launch from the IGAD Scholarships Programme and a signing ceremony of the IGAD Protocols for Free Movement and Transhumance.
CS Dr . Alfred Mutua participated at the 48th Regular Session of the Intergovernmental Specialist on Development (IGAD) Authorities of Ministers, in Khartoum, Sudan on November 30, 2022.
“Our region continues to be a major target for terrorists because of our geo-strategic location plus our commitment in the fight against terrorism. ” CS Mutua mentioned.   He emphasized at the need for continued collaboration and coordination through regional counter-terrorism cooperation and investigation, criminal prosecution as well as incident response.
IGAD Partners existing called for sustainable economic integration in the Horn of The african continent, lauding the efforts created by IGAD in addressing specific economic and development challenges.
The particular Executive Secretary gave the Council a regional scenario report and the report of the IGAD Experts Meeting. The Cabinet secretary was joined up with by Amb. Ngewa Mukala, Kenya’s Ambassador to the Sudan and Amb. Salim Salim, Kenya’s Ambassador to Djibouti and IGAD.
On Protection matters, Dr . Mutua noted that terrorism and chaotic extremism fueled by radicalization have emerged as main threats to peace plus security in the region.
