Over 6000 USD for Committee for Upliftment of the Mentally Ill (CUMI) from Jamaicans in Washington – MFAFT – Jamaica

Caption: On the heels of the Season of Giving, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Hon Kamina Johnson Smith yesterday presented a cheque valued at over million to the Committee for the Upliftment of the Mentally Ill (CUMI). The funds represent proceeds collected from the Jamaica61 Independence Church Service in Washington D.C.
Speaking at a handover event at the Ministry’s downtown headquarters, Minister Johnson Smith shared that the cheque represents a whole-of-society approach to development and thanked the Jamaican Ambassador to the United States, Her Excellency (H.E) Audrey Marks for mobilising the Diaspora around the important developmental cause of Goal #1 of Jamaica’s National Development Plan-Vision 2030, which seeks to empower all Jamaicans to realise their fullest potential.
CUMI is a registered Non-profit and Charitable Foundation based in Montego Bay. It advocates for the homeless and mentally challenged, while seeking resources to help improve their level of physical and mental health as well as their basic standard of living.
