JOHNSON SMITH URGES BUSINESS FIELD TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EMERGING OPPORTUNITIES FROM DYNAMIC TRADE ENVIRONMENT

Johnson Smith, who highlighted latest global economic shocks plus unpredictable changes in the global industry environment, urged a positive approach: As we strive to address the newest global challenges and seek to identify sustainable avenues plus mechanisms through which to promote Jamaica’s interests, I challenge a person, our stakeholders, to also explore the ways in which you and your companies can make a lasting share to Jamaica becoming a top force in the transformation associated with global trade”.
On the useful side of discussions, expressing the example of CARICOM’s twenty five x 2025 initiative to lessen the region’s import expenses, Minister Johnson Smith urged companies to, “Take complete advantage of the opportunities which are and will become available to supply generate to the region, ” plus noted that companies are already being facilitated to identify opportunities through JAMPRO and the MIIC. She reiterated the role of the Government in facilitating trade by means of negotiation of agreements and creating policies, including the nationwide Foreign Trade Policy and Foreign Trade Action Plan, furthermore affirmed the critical function played by the private field in guiding policy to make sure effectiveness in growing the company of trade and national development. The Minister mentioned, “As part of those objectives, we aim to integrate and streamline the role that international trade must enjoy in achieving positive and meaningful economic outcomes for that country and the wider community. Your input will be an indispensable part of this process, mindful of the importance of partnerships in seeking a transformational trade policy agenda. ” 
The particular Minister was speaking at the Jamaica Trade Policy Advisory Group (JAMTRADE) Stakeholders Conference, which is a joint effort of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (MFAFT), other Ministries and Agencies, the private sector, academia and civil society stakeholders, to provide technical advice plus input in support of trade plan development and implementation.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Honourable Kamina Manley Smith, is encouraging more dynamic and innovative collaboration between private and community sector stakeholders to take benefit of emerging opportunities offered by the particular changing global trade atmosphere.
The Minister also talked of “untapped opportunities” pursuant to CARICOM agreements with Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba and the Dominican Republic, and prompted feedback regarding future strategies.
This was the first in-person meeting of key stakeholders carrying out a hiatus due the COVID-19 Pandemic.
