Jamaica’s election to Part III of the Council is strategically important for the country, the region, other Small Island Developing States, as well as Least Developed States. The election is important, given the Council’s preeminent role in providing direction to the work of ICAO, as the international aviation oversight body, with responsibility for standards adoption and other ICAO governance matters.
According to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, “My hardworking team at the Ministry, supported by High Commissioner Sharon Miller, were instrumental to the efforts of having Jamaica successfully elected to Part III of the Council with the sixth highest number of votes. This is a significant achievement for the country and the region, as we seek to contribute to a truly global advancement of the aviation sector.”

Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade has expressed delight at Jamaica’s successful election to Part III of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council, on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.
The country will serve a three-year term between 2022-2025.This follows elections at the 41st International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Assembly in Montreal, Canada.
The Foreign Minister shared, “I would also like to congratulate the Minister of Transport and Mining, the Honourable Audley Shaw and his technical team for their contribution. We look forward to serving on the Council and to make our mark in civil aviation.”
