Johnson Smith describes donation of high speed boat by Japan “as another significant milestone in the J-J partnership.”

Caption: Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade has described the donation of a high speed boat by the Government of Japan to the Government of Jamaica “as another significant milestone in the J-J partnership.”
The Foreign Minister said the tug boat, “has come at a time as we are taking active steps to secure our maritime borders,” adding that, “With this gift, we will be better placed to detect and intercept illicit activities, including the smuggling of contraband, guns and ammunition, as well as, human trafficking.”
The Minister was speaking at a handover ceremony of the marine vessel to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) by the Japanese Embassy on Wednesday, October 5.
Johnson Smith shared that the provision of the tug boat is as a result of Prime Minister Holness’ visit to Tokyo in 2019, where discussions were had about the acquisition of patrol vessels to enhance Jamaica’s maritime security and disaster response efforts.
